In The Spotlight

In Conversation with Photographer Liezel Volschenk

Tell us a little more about yourself, your experience and what you do (skills and service that you offer).

I’m a twenty-five-year-old Wedding, Portrait and Lifestyle photographer in the beautiful Garden Route operating in full swing since 2017. I’m a social media addict, studying Digital Content & Copywriting (until the next course I can take on), with an unhealthy obsession with coffee (so feel free to stick me for coffee to make my day!)

What drives your passion for what you do? What inspires you?

I live for the beautiful, classic portraits I can create for my beautiful couples and documenting moments that happen in split seconds that forever can be relived long after the wedding day has gone by. I like to approach weddings as a documentary with a slight curated twist. I strive to create timeless, striking portraiture studies for clients and running around with all the beautiful families on the beaches of the Garden Route and making people smile.

What makes you stand out from the rest? Mention any special awards or achievements

I recently placed in the Top 10 in the Admired in Africa 2018 competition in the  Bridal Portrait, Engagement and Couple division which was HUGE for me as there were more than 3500 entries. In 2018 I was named one of the seven wedding photographers to watch on Instagram by OutdoorPhoto, which was pretty rad too! I also received invitations to Fearless Photographers, Admired in Africa Lifestyle and Junebug Weddings which strictly works on rewarding memberships.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

I’d like to think of myself as the black crayon, timeless and everlasting. Its a classic color, high end and daring and I’d like to think of my work as everlasting and always trying out something new.

Tell us about the gear that you use

I shoot with 2x Nikon D750 bodies and only shoot with prime lenses and my kit comprises of 35mm 1.4F, 50mm 1.4F, 60mm 2.8F, Macro  85mm 1.4F and a 135mm prime lens. I also only use Lexar Professional Memory cards, purely out of personal preference as it works the absolute best for me.

I’m lucky to have the support of Sunshine Co. and received a BlackRapid double breathe strap to support both bodies which allow me to work handsfree and to effortlessly swap between bodies without missing a shot.

Are you social? List any social platforms that you’re on so that people can follow you (list your username per platform)

Of course!

I mainly operate on Facebook and Instagram with the latter being my more active profile which showcases more imagery than what is published on my Facebook page.

I’m also working on releasing brand new galleries on my website after my review has been completed on my perfect website that was designed and built by CRT Group
